Medical Illustrator, Jewelry Artist
Lori Messenger is the owner of DNA Studios and is a metalsmith
and medical illustrator living in Hull, MA. Lori grew up in a rural area of
northwest Connecticut and developed a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature
and science. Lori studied medical illustration, photography, and ceramics at
the Cleveland Institute of Art and the Case
Western Medical School where she earned her degree in Medical
Illustration. She is a very active member of the Association of Medical Illustrators
and is board certified in Medical Illustration. During her first job, while
working as a staff illustrator at the Boston University School
of Medicine, she began studying metalsmithing at the Program
in Artisanry at Boston University and enameling
at the Massachusetts College of Art.
Lori currently works as a full-time staff illustrator for
a peer-reviewed medical journal creating medical illustrations for print publication
as well as web-based animations. Her jewelry designs are inspired by the amazing
colors and intricate patterns found in microscopic views of the natural world.
Lori has worked in enameling and metals and most recently has been combining
lampworked glass beadmaking into her one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces.
